About the role

Our Advisory Team of Consultants help our clients create business value through carbon, energy, sustainability and climate risk management.

Given the significant increase in Net-Zero commitments among clients, the primary focus of the Consultant (Carbon Credit Advisory) will be to lead the initial phases of our clients’ carbon offsetting journeys. This involves engaging clients’ key stakeholders in establishing robust offsetting strategies and embarking on the development of their own projects.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:

  • Lead on strategic projects with clients to build and implement ambitious carbon offsetting strategies that enable them to achieve their Net-Zero commitments.
  • To contribute to our overall consultancy function and sustainability service line by supporting advisory projects related to Carbon Finance as part of voluntary carbon offsetting at international and national level (e.g. Woodland Carbon Code).
  • To support clients in assessing project investment opportunities, including both technical analysis, (project feasibility studies), and financial analysis (profitability, valuation of credits, budget management).
  • Supporting business development by aiding in proposals, assisting in scoping and costing to meet client requirements and communicating climate finance projects to clients.
  • Understanding of or interest in links between offsetting projects and Forest, Land, and Agricultural removal projects, aligning with SBTi FLAG requirements and GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Guidance for internal insights and client project opportunities.
  • The opportunity to support and project manage a wide variety of projects across the spectrum of the EcoAct offering, including: GHG footprinting, benchmarking, SBTi targets, and corporate reporting and compliance
  • The opportunity to support and project manage on Measurement and Reporting Systems (MRS), CDP, Environmental and Energy Management systems, Climate Finance, Life Cycle Assessment and Scope 3 Assessments.
  • Contributing to firm building and identifying improvements in our service offerings;
  • Quality Assuring large data sets and analytical outputs; producing findings reports following research and communicate recommendations to the wider team.
  • Confidently presenting to and leading client calls on project scope and deliverables. Fostering client relationships supporting them in their net zero journey.

Relationships

Reporting to a senior member of the Advisory Team, the Consultant (Carbon Credit Advisory) will be required to work closely with all members of the team, across the Advisory, Business Development, and NTBS teams, to achieve Company objectives. External relationships are a key part of the role, with a requirement to liaise with project teams, clients, overseas offices, and representatives from partner organisations.

Professional Background and Experience

Multiple years’ post-graduate experience of working within carbon and sustainability services and have supported on a range of projects, ideally demonstrated through client consulting engagements in the private sector.

Post-holder likely to have an academic background in engineering or sciences, the role  requires experience within the field of carbon offsetting, climate science, and decarbonisation services.

Expertise on some of the following areas and a willingness to learn others is required:

Technical

  • Relevant knowledge of Voluntary Carbon Market, carbon project development, nature-based carbon accounting methodologies, and both global certification standards and National labels.
  • Some experience in supporting the development of emission avoidance, reduction and/or removal projects, including drafting feasibility studies, creating project design documents, project validation, monitoring, reporting and verification under a variety of carbon standards.
  • ARR, Regenerative Agriculture, Community Based or Blue Carbon project development and accounting methodologies experience desired.
  • Experience of creating business plans for project development opportunities with clients following feasibility studies.
  • Experience in evaluating risks, (technical, financial, regulatory) and setting up appropriate mitigated actions in relation to project development.
  • Experience in engaging with key client stakeholders to develop and deliver an offsetting strategy aligning with client ambitions and targets.
  • Proficient in carbon accounting, measurement techniques, and calculation methods for Scopes 1, 2, and 3, including familiarity with standards such as ISO 14064, GHG Protocol, PAS 2050, and PAS 2060 for carbon neutrality.
  • Excellent data handling skills and advanced knowledge of Excel is essential in this role.

Professional

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to produce well-presented, error-free results.
  • Experience and/or ability to work in a consultative manner to understand client needs and guide them to a solution, preferably demonstrated through client consulting engagements in the private sector.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex project deliveries across multiple simultaneous client engagements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to speak and present information with confidence in front of an audience, lead client workshops and represent EcoAct externally.
  • Effective writing skills, with an ability to write concise, compelling, and well-structured documents and reports.
  • Commitment to supporting the team in a growing and dynamic business.
  • Developing intellectual and commercial assets within the company, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • An ability to see the ‘big picture’, as well as focus on the detail.

Location

The role is based in the UK with a flexible blend of home and office working. The role requires attendance at the London head office as necessary for business purposes. The role may also require some international travel.
