The Role

The  main focus of the Climate Modelling Senior Consultant is to develop and deliver tools to enable our clients to understand their exposure to climate related hazards, using the results to support them in assessing their climate-related risk and opportunity in the context of frameworks such as TCFD.

They will understand the modelling results in a commercial context and translate them into client friendly terms. The role will contribute to our overall consultancy function, however there will be a key focus on climate scenario analysis, in particular through the development and use of climate models and manipulation of netcdf files.

Our Climate Modelling Senior Consultant will:

  • Lead the development and maintenance of climate models in the UK to help our clients understand asset-level exposure to climate change. Manage TCFD and climate scenario analysis projects for clients based in the UK and internationally
  • Support and advise clients by offering creative and innovative solutions to Climate Scenario Analysis, scenario development and climate modelling, both in terms of technical and commercial expertise
  • Work with the climate modelling teams in other EcoAct geographies to ensure transparency of modelling and approaches to enhance our offering
  • Work with our clients to align projects to client-specific reporting frameworks and requirements relating to climate risk and opportunity assessment and reporting
  • Provide recommendations to our clients on their strategy development aligned to the results of Climate Scenario Analysis
  • Manage projects independently but also capable of managing teams of consultants and participating in large-scale multidisciplinary projects as part of a team
  • On the theme of risks and opportunities linked to climate change, support the Business Development team on proposals and help to develop new climate indicators specific to the client

About You

You will have:

  • Knowledge of climate models and the handling of netcdf files as part of a research activity is essential. Proficiency in a programming language (R or Python) is also essential
  • Proficiency in visualisation tools such as QGIS is a plus. Likewise, mastery of downscaling techniques developed as part of a research activity is beneficial
  • Experience of stakeholder engagement and analysis including materiality assessment, interviews, workshops and peer benchmarking
  • Detailed knowledge of regulatory frameworks linked to climate change (e.g. TCFD) is essential
  • Familiarity with the recommendations of TCFD and other publications aimed at supporting organisations address, manage and prepare against the impact of climate change is essential
  • Clear understanding of using climate modelling in a commercial context and translating results into client friendly terms
  • Excellent data handling skills and advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Detailed knowledge of issues surrounding climate change, energy, greenhouse gas emissions and sustainability, including risks and opportunities, mitigation, adaptation, strategy, science-based targets and scenario analysis
  • Experience of GHG Protocol requirements, including Scope 3 value chain assessment techniques and methods, would be desirable
  • Familiarity with a range of approaches to target setting including science-based target methodologies and CDP


The role will be based in the UK with a flexible blend of home and office working. The successful applicant will be required to travel to and from the London head office as required for business purposes and potentially internationally on assignment.
