What does responsible business look like?

This week is Responsible Business Week 2017 (#RBWeek). It calls for businesses, their employees and partners to come together to share ideas and show how they are taking positive action for a fairer society and a more sustainable future.

CClearer is the responsible business program here at Carbon Clear and it ensures that we look at who we are and how we apply our values to our business. We spend a lot of time supporting our clients to develop an intelligent approach to carbon and sustainability management, so it’s always important to continue making a difference closer to home.

What is CClearer’s purpose?

The aim of the programme is simple: as people continue their career journey with Carbon Clear, we want their time here to be as fulfilling and impactful as possible. CClearer supports this by focusing on the three columns; Community, Climate and Colleagues – and each has its own Champion (yes, we got slightly excited at the opportunity for alliteration).

What have we achieved?

Aside from the impressive use of alliteration, 2017 has already proved very busy for us. Highlights so far include:

• a visit to our charity partner the Brain Tumour Charity’s R&D laboratory
• taking on our competitors at 5-a-side football match
• Transport for London presenting a London by Bike session to our team

We’ve also set up a Carbon Clear dodgeball team (that’s currently 2nd in the league), joined the EuroNatur photo competition and held a Brain Awareness Month aimed at raising money through our ‘Wear it Out’ bandana day and brain food bake sales.

What’s on the horizon?

We have a whole heap of ideas planned for the year ahead, and each champion will be planning to implement more ideas before they pass on the baton to the next generation of C Clearer champions.

Our Colleagues Champ is helping raise awareness for the importance of mental health by facilitating team training, organising a company bowling night and planning revenge in a second round of 5-a-side football against our competitors.

Our Community Champion has enlisted almost a third of the Carbon Clear team for the Vitality 10k run and we shall fundraise for our chosen charities – the Brain Tumour Charity and Food4All. On top of that, we are in the process of organising a community pub quiz and have some exciting plans for volunteering that we can’t wait to share soon.

Last but not least, our Climate Champion has planned an inter-company ‘waste war’ (I know, it’s as exciting as it sounds) and some further London by Bike seminars to get employees out of the underground and into the saddle.
